Hey all of you teetotalers out there reading my blog! (Wait, why would you do that to yourself? You know that Gruner Veltliner is wine, right? AKA booze?)

Anyways, hold onto your dry counties, because have I got a scoop for you. Or more accurately, the L.A. Times does. Get this:

Women who drink moderate amounts of alcohol don’t gain as much weight in midlife as those who abstain, a study has found.

Booya!!!

Moderate=1 bottle per night, right?

Interestingly,

Women burn more calories after drinking than men do, however, providing a possible biological explanation.

But some of the link might not be due only to alcohol consumption but to other things drinking women tend to do. Women who drank more alcohol in the study consumed fewer calories from other foods. They were more likely to smoke, were more physically active, had lower body mass indexes at the start of the study and had less healthful diets.

All that may sound good, BUT:

The research should not translate into advice for women, said Dr. James C. Garbutt, a professor of psychiatry at the University of North Carolina’s Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies.

Garbutt, for a guy who works in alcohol studies, you are NO FUN.

I, on the other hand, am fun, evidenced by my burning off a hefty portion of my vino cals via aggressive sessions of bar aerobics. Not to mention my love of chicken fingers.
