Legends of the Fall was on again last night. Now, I don’t know if you’ve seen this movie, but I’d venture to guess that if you’ve seen even one movie, you’ve probably seen this one, since it came out during perhaps the peak of Brad Pitt (pre-Angie) hysteria, in 1994, when I was but an elderly high-school senior and Brad had yet to get serious with Gwynnie.
It’s on pretty regularly on channels like TBS and TNT. And it stars other rather famous people, like Aiden Quinn and Anthony Hopkins and the ill-fated Julia Ormond, whom I once saw shopping for hats at Barney’s and who is now starring in Lifetime movies. Which just goes to show that while men grow up to date Angelina Jolie, women … well, anyway.

1. It’s National Whipped Cream Day.
2. I’m wearing that hot-pinkish Marc Jacobs top with the huge funnel neck that makes me look rather turtlish. And we like turtles. Plus, cashmere socks!

Holly jolly ho ho ho!
I can’t believe it’s December, much less a week (nay, 6 days) from when I board JetBlue flight TKTK and head to Florida to celebrate the reason for the season with my Occasionally Working Mother, Soon-to-be-Reemployed Father, Cognitive Neuroscientist Brother, and Self-Employed Sis-in-Law-to-Be.

Have you ever wondered to yourself: Am I the kiss-ass sycophant in the office who everybody hates and mocks ceaselessly behind my back? Or am I the rebel with a cause—that cause being the end to oppression at the hands of the self-appointed boss-cum-dictator?
Wait no more, the truth will be yours! You need only take this handy-dandy quiz supplied by our friends over at USA Today to determine whether you’re a brown-nosing toady—or a straight-shooter with upper management written all over you.

Today’s Halloween. Which means the usual frivolity, sugar crashes, and potential for thrills and chills. So just a reminder to be careful out there. Here are a few things to watch out for.
-Actual vampires. You can tell them by their resemblance to Robert Pattinson.
-Actual werewolves. You can tell them by their resemblance to Michael J. Fox, circa 1985.
-A small child with a big bag of candy who seems to be struggling. DO NOT HELP HIM/HER/IT. This is really a midget with no mercy who will throw you down and take your own candy if he gets the chance.
-A small child who claims to be “lost” or “without parents.” This is also a midget with no mercy, who may have been a tranny hooker in a previous life. Stay away.
-Anything masquerading as a pumpkin.
-Anybody dressed as “Balloon Boy.” There may be vomiting.
-Thieves, muggers, assholes, sexual offenders, the Gosselins, rabid dogs, and John Liu, Comptroller.
-A girl dressed in a pink slip, passing out “pink slips.” She may well be me. And we all know how that ends up.

This week has been a red-letter week of sorts, at least in my book. Allow me to tell you why.
1. I bought a new shower curtain. Finally. And it’s pretty darn cute. Not to mention, my old one was hella moldy. Here’s a pic.

Would she smell as sweet? I suppose that would depend on when she’d bathed, and how much Wild Turkey she’d consumed the night before.
But it’s an interesting question. There are a lot of words out there for the jobless, and the way we got there. Unemployed, fired, laid-off, “between work,” even freelance and semi-employed. All have a different cast; a different set of expectations and perhaps stigmas. And how freakingly meta is it when your job becomes “Being Your Unemployed Daughter”? Dude.

Last night YUD found herself at a going-away party (sob, sob) for her dear former EIC, who is returning to the South to take her rightful place among the gainfully employed as a high-powered career woman in busy lady suits.
Less than an hour after my arrival at the shindig – which took place at a Brooklyn bar with its own backyard and grilling facilities – arrived one of those torrential downpours that used to be confined to Florida’s coast and the Caribbean prior to the Great Dampening of NYC 2009. The skies opened, we took shelter indoors, the cheeseburgers were delayed.
Yet shortly after that, some alert (not too drunk yet) person pointed up at the sky and announced that there were not one but two rainbows! (Appropriate timing given today’s Gay Pride Parade.)

YUD is very excited. Her friend (and former colleague/wearer of the “Snaps Cap”/grand master of imitations verbal and physical/shutterbug/dance fiend) Derek has been documenting a variety of things, large and small, that are helping him through his second brush with unemployment. And he has agreed to feature his work on YUD! Check in regularly for more entries.
THINGS GETTING ME THROUGH UNEMPLOYMENT, A HISTORY OF
“Unemployment” is a word that is being shouted from the rooftops these days, but instead of jumping, why not take a picture of the view? It’s so easy to get caught up in it all: rent, loans, food, bills, etc… All things that money needs to be spent on in order to get through the day.
