Today is a day of endings, of things I’ve always considered permanent being ripped from me, taken before their time (even if I haven’t thought about them much in the past couple of years, that doesn’t mean I’d forgotten them, and anyway, never you mind about that).
After waking to the news that the Coreys have been split asunder (and what does one do with just one? They’re like socks!) I have been texted by a friend that the gloriously faux-retro Comfort Diner located on 45th Street between 2nd and 3rd Aves in midtown M’hattan has shuttered. “This recession is ruining all my favorite things!” she says.

Some of you may know this already, as my identity is not so anonymous as I might like it to be, but I went to high school (5th grade through 12th, in fact) in a smallish-to-midsized Alabama town called Decatur.
Yes, there’s one in Georgia, too, and Illinois, for that matter. But my dad (a chemical engineer who’s now back to work after retirement, congrats Dad) was transferred to the one in Alabama to help manage one of the big chemical plants.

Allow me to apologize for leaving that nacho cheese post up front and center for so long. It’s true, I’ve been giving myself a little break on weekends. I mean, you get a rest day in your workout week, so what about your blogging week? And sometimes I just need to give my brain a little space. It gets tired too, you know.
Speaking of tired, today I spent the day working at a sample sale. This one, to be exact. I sorted clothes, put them in boxes according to size, emptied huge duffels of their contents and arranged those contents in pleasing, purchase-convincing arrangements. And then I did math, too. I calculated people’s bills, and ran their credit cards through the credit-card machine, and … you know what’s weird? It was sort of fun.

I’m heading to the dentist this morning and I am taking my sweet time about it, because, well, who eagerly wakes up and, bright-eyed and busy-tailed, heads off to the dentist?
Actually, it’s better if you avoid thinking about your dental visit completely, or if someone else takes you there and shouts “Surprise!” and then leaves you there, because if you think about it too much, you’ll psyche yourself out. All that scraping, those tools, the awkward moments where someone’s hands are in your mouth…

In the last 24 hours, I have gotten the last 3 emails. (I’ve gotten more than just 3 emails, don’t worry, but let’s focus on these for a moment.)
I mean, of course, we all get spam. Generally I don’t even open it. But in this case, I was intrigued. Maybe bored. The names seemed oddly familiar. The subject lines compelling. Maybe they were unconventional job offers!
At any rate, I opened them.
